WAVE Foundation’s education programs utilize the amazing aquatic wildlife resources of Newport Aquarium to inspire and foster environmental stewards through education, conservation, and volunteerism. Our programs expand accessibility and equity by bringing the ocean to classrooms and other places of learning around the Greater Cincinnati region and beyond. Explore our offerings below!
NEW! Hop on into WAVE for our toddler program, Tadpole Tots! Explore the wild world around us through reading a book, meeting an ambassador animal, and making a craft during this event developed for 2-3 year olds.
Make a splash with WAVE during our preschool program, AxoLittles! Together, we will learn about amazing animal friends with hands-on experiences. Join in on a read aloud, meet an animal ambassador, and make a craft during this event. This event is for 3 to 5-year-olds!
WAVE on Wheels brings the Aquarium to you! From meet & greets to assembly programs, we’ve got the experience best suited for your needs. You may even qualify for a free program through the Community Outreach Scholarship Fund!
In partnership with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, WAVE’s fun STEM-based education initiative is dedicated to helping kids, especially girls, ages 8-13, to build knowledge and confidence in STEM skills as well as form strong community connections.The kids connect with community mentors and scientists actively working in STEM-related fields, share the knowledge they gain through programming, and facilitate shark and ocean conservation!
WAVE Foundation offers Summer and Spring Break day camps. Camp WAVE curriculum features learning and exploration with animal ambassadors and entertaining programming that engages young learners in the aquatic world. Hosted at the WAVE education building at Newport on the Levee with daily trips to the Newport Aquarium to experience the biology of aquatic creatures first-hand.
This program combines active conservation games with an animal encounter where kids learn about a conservation topic while getting their wiggles out. Plus, they get to meet an animal ambassador! We are expanding our number of topics and including games like penguin egg pass, bird beak relay, and more!

All of our Camp WAVE instructors, and many additional staff, are CPR, First Aid, and AED certified.

Every WAVE staff member has completed the Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training to prevent, recognize, and report child sexual abuse. This internationally recognized training is endorsed by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Click Here to learn more about Darkness to Light.

Every WAVE staff member signs a Code of Conduct, which includes policies and practices sucCode of Conducth as never allowing an adult team member to be alone with a minor and never having private interactions through social media with a child.
