Camp WAVE

2017 Summer Camp


Get ready to jump into the deep end and make some waves with Camp WAVE! Camp WAVE is a week long day camp experience for children entering grades K-8 with the exception of the Career Camps which are for students entering grades 6-12. Camp WAVE is held at Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. Each weeks runs Monday – Friday from 9am-4pm for all weeks except for Splash Days which is a 2 day camp. Registration is limited so reserve your spot now!

Camp WAVE is the only camp around where campers have the chance to meet sharks, penguins, and sting rays up close while exploring the aquatic wonders around us. From uncovering creatures of Cincinnati’s ancient seas to learning about international efforts to conserves endangered species, there’s something for every this year at Camp WAVE!

Camp WAVE Prices
Newport Aquarium Annual Passholder: $190
Non-Passholder: $220 (Click here to purchase a Newport Aquarium annual pass)
Register Prior to April 17, 2017 to receive the early bird discount of $20.

After Care
We will be offering post care this summer, from 4 pm -5:30 pm. During this time, at any point, you may come to pick up your child. The price will be $50 for the whole week. We will have playtime, crafts, coloring, and other activities going on for the campers. You can sign-up for After Care when you register online or anytime prior to the start of camp.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations are accepted up to two weeks in advance of camp. Within two weeks, no refunds will be made. Accepted cancellations will receive a complete refund minus a $20 administration fee.

Dates and Themes

Ancient Oceans and Fossils June 5-9:

How special is the Cincinnati area? Did you know it is one of the BEST places in the world to find fossils? What did prehistoric animals look like? This week we will delve into the world of what is under our feet, and learn about the amazing animals that once roamed our earth!

 

SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction June 12-16:

Each year, Camp WAVE focuses a whole week on how to help endangered animals, and what we can do from our own homes! This week you will learn all about how animals become endangered, how the Newport Aquarium and WAVE Foundation helps them, and why are animals are so important to our world!

 

Chasing your Dream, Career Camp June 19-23:

Dreaming of a career in an aquarium? You can do so many things here! You will get to experience many sides of working in an aquarium from prepping food and feeding animals to seeing scientific research at the Thomas Moore Field Station and learning about our local ecosystems. Not only will you learn what we do, but also you will learn how to get there!

 

Shark Week June 26-30:

How much do you really know about sharks? Shark week comes alive at camp this year! No more sitting on the couch watching it! Come to Camp WAVE and see a variety of sharks, live and up close! Watching our sharks feed, learning about many of the species, and possibly even feeding some!

 

Splash Days (2 Day) July 6-7:

Ready to dip your toes in the water? Maybe not in the water here, but this camp is a great way to get a sample of what Camp WAVE has to offer. Tour the aquarium, experience behind the scenes, meet our outreach animal ambassadors, and try your hand at feeding some animals. Learn about all we do here at Camp WAVE!

 

Animal Ecosystems July 17-21:

What does a stingray and a legless lizard have in common? Deserts, coral reefs, rainforests, deep sea; learn about all of these and more at Camp WAVE! Animals can live in all types of areas, and each day we will be talking about a different ecosystem, while meeting some animals that live there!

 

Find Your Path, Career Camp July 24-29:

Dreaming of a career in an aquarium? You can do so many things here! You will get to experience many sides of working in an aquarium from prepping food and feeding animals to seeing scientific research at the Thomas Moore Field Station and learning about our local ecosystems. Not only will you learn what we do, but also you will learn how to get there!

 

Animal Super Heroes July 31-August 4:

How is a shark a superhero? What makes the Hulk, the hulk? This week, we dive into how our animals right here at the Newport Aquarium, are superheroes! See all of our amazing animals up close and learn about all of our creatures here, but have fun along the way!

 

Keepers and Conservation August 7-11:

How do you take care of a massive shark tank? Being an animal keeper or biologist is a big job, and you can learn the ins and outs of it! We will be meeting with biologists that work right here at the aquarium, while also learning how we help save animals every day. Let us see what you know about animal care and conservation!
